Norway lead Winter Olympics with 6 days to go
With the 2018 Winter Olympics in full swing, we currently have the bizarre situation where different countries use different medal tables.
Some, such as the UK, use a ranking based on the number of golds won – with silvers and bronzes only counting in the event of a tie. While others, such as the USA, use a medal table based on the total number of medals won – irrespective of colour.
For much of the first week of the Winter Olympics, this led to the absurd situation where the US thought Norway was leading - while other countries had Germany in the lead. Even now, there are big discrepancies between the two tables. For example, the US have the Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR) in 5th place - while other countries have them in 20th place.
Luckily, Greatest Sporting Nation is here to sort out the confusion. Thanks to GSN’s unique methodology, we can exclusively reveal that the leader, as of the end of play on Monday 19th February, is Norway. Germany are in second place, and the USA in third. Olympic Athletes from Russia are in 9th place (full table below).
Will Norway hang on to the end of the Games? Or can any of Germany, the USA, France, Sweden, Austria or Canada catch them?
There are still a lot of events, and points, to play for so please check Greatest Sporting Nation in a week’s time to find out!
