South Korea hit bullseye in Target Sports 2017

South Korea's Kang Chae Young and Im Dong Hyun go for mixed recurve gold at Mexico City’s Archery Outdoor World Championships

South Korea have clinched the overall Target Sports title, which combines the results from the year’s Shooting and Archery tournaments.

The Asian nation, third in Targets Sports in 2016, is a three-time winner of this sport group, and has only been out of the top 3 once since 2013 (7th in 2014).
South Korea built their success with an emphatic victory in Archery, and finished 11th in Shooting.

They won both the Archery World Cup, ahead of the USA and Denmark, and the Archery Outdoor World Championships, ahead of the USA and Germany.
Behind South Korea in the overall Target Sports ranking, the USA edged China into second place by only 3 points. The Americans’ fourth place in Archery and runners-up spot in Shooting were just enough to pip Shooting champions China at the post.

50 countries scored points in Target Sports in 2017, and the top 20 table (see below) was quite diverse in geographical terms, featuring six countries from Asia, 11 from Europe and one each from North, Central and South America (Australia and New Zealand scored points too but were outside the top 20).

In per capita terms (i.e. in terms of the number of citizens needed to score one GSN point in Target Sports), the most efficient, eagle-eyed country was Denmark (41001 citizens per point), followed by Serbia (64167) and Croatia (69237).
