9/10 of the top ten nations are unchanged since Berlin 2009, the only difference being France, in in 9th place, and Australia, out (was 10th).

Russia moves up from 3rd to 2nd, closing in on the USA: 551 pts behind the Stars & Stripes, as opposed to 855 in 2009.

Jamaica rues Bolt’s demise in the 100m and slips from 2nd in Berlin to 4th in Daegu, while Kenya moves up from 4th to 3rd in Daegu, with a nearly 50% increase in points scored. The African country’s athletes run riot in the middle distances, winning gold in the 800m (Rudisha), gold and silver in the 1.500m (Kiprop and Kiplagat) and the 3.000m steeplechase (Kemboi, Kipruto)! Kenya finished second in the Men ranking, a mere 266 pts behind the USA.

Great Britain moves up one position, into 5th, though scoring 20 pts less than in Berlin.

Outside the Top Ten, there’s a wealth of new comers since Berlin: Morocco in 15th, the Czech Republic in 17th and Belgium in 19th. To mention also the jump up of the Ukraine into 14th place, with nearly 50% more pts, and Italy slipping out of the Top Twenty, to 21st.
